2025 Great Plains

Storm Chasing Tours and Weather Photography Workshops

Overview:
See the dramatic battle between seasons unfold before your eyes in the Great Plains. Our small, hands-on storm chasing  photography workshops give you the unique opportunity to witness and capture some of the most powerful and breathtaking weather events on the planet in the famed "tornado alley" and beyond.

While Mother Nature never offers any guarantees, we will seek out a wide range of photogenic, spring season weather phenomena including supercells, tornadoes, shelf clouds, transient luminous events (sprites), and impressive lightning displays. Participants can expect to cover ground across multiple states and experience storms across a wide-range of landscapes from the deserts of New Mexico, to the sweeping grasslands of Wyoming and Montana.

What to expect:
After a brief introductory orientation/meet and greet, our storm chasing adventure begins. Each chase day will start with a comprehensive weather briefing, forecasting, and targeting session where we will analyze the latest data and determine our starting location for the day. Attendees who are interested in the forecasting process will learn about the models and data sources we use, what to look for, and how to translate that information into a successful chase day. We will cover key apps and how to use them, navigation, route planning, timing, and most importantly, safety.

Following the morning planning session, we will travel to our initial target area. Our small workshop size allows us to travel in comfort in a premium vehicle equipped with weather radar, satellite GPS, snacks, beverages, and at times, a corgi named Aspen! (That's a free bonus)

Throughout the day and well into the evening, we will chase and photograph storms, teaching you valuable weather photography techniques along the way. You will learn how to safely track storms, position for the best view, and capture high-quality images of captivating storms and scenery.
